Peeking Under the Bandaide

bandage-1235337__340

This video discusses the situation where we have a bandaide covering a wound, and we have the urge to take a peek underneath, but we are doing so from the starting point of having the ‘urge to pick’… where we KNOW we will pick at it again, only making it worse, risking infection and scarring.

Important points in the video:

  • How to approach the situation
  • How to use decision-making to hack the skin-pick cycle and build some resolve by taking a stand.
  • The difference between a ‘compulsive decision’, and a ‘decision made in awareness’.
  • How this develops self-authority.
  • How, when we are in the compulsive-state, we are skewing our reality and not really in control of ourselves (can’t trust ourselves in this moment).
  • How this can build towards re-directing yourself in the face of future urges.
  • Why the small moments are actually HUGE.

Many sufferers of skin-picking use physical methods of prevention to stop skin-picking. In this video I discuss the effects this has on the disorder, and when not properly applied, how this method can actually make things worse and more difficult in the long run. I also discuss how to effectively use this method.

Important point from the video:

  • Looking at the underlying causes of compulsive skin-picking, including the intense internal experience.
  • The role skin-picking plays in the disorder, the disorder being more than just skin picking
  • What skin picking gives us, and what happens when we take it away through physical prevention such as acrylic nails, bandaides, and clothes.
  • The beneficial role these physical preventative measures can play if used properly.
  • The consequences of depriving yourself from skin-picking, and how to prevent them.
  • My experience with applying these measures, and what I learned.

Do You Eat Your Scabs?

Eating the Scabs or the Skin

This is a common question I see in support groups that many are afraid to ask. I think it’s safe to say at this point that it is pretty common… but what do we do with this? What lies beyond building up the courage to ask, and then asking and finding out you’re not alone? Does the road end there, or is there something more that can be learned? This video covers just such topics.

Important points in the video:

  • The importance of defining/personalizing points for yourself, what the affliction means to YOU, how does it play out in your life, and how YOU chose to deal with it/script a solution.
  • How self consumption is showing a point of self-disatisfaction, how and why?
  • Introducing some common sense and self-introspection when looking at this behaviour.
  • Looking at how to use skin/scab eating as a point of support in your life.
  • How to create yourself as someone you can be satisfied with, and why that creative potential is of utmost importance.
